A
large, devoted, legion of fans is an important
factor in the success of V8 Supercar racing today.
The
rules under which all cars compete are strictly
set and governed to achieve what is known as parity
between the rival teams. Parity rules state that
all cars must race on identical tyres, use 5-litre
engines and aero spoilers of a specific shape
and dimension. Working within these rules, a team
can still gain an advantage by application of
a magical combination of tyre pressures, shock
absorber settings and spring stiffness. Teams
must leave no stone unturned in the quest for
an edge over their rivals since fractions make
a difference. This is why there is more to racing
than just on the track. team face racing which
is close and furious, usually only 1 second is
the separator between winning and coming 25th.
